Week 10: Dark fiber: exploits, botnets and cyberwar

It is unfortunate when there are cases where people use hacking for illicit means such as stealing credit card information like some of the hackers of LulzSec. Others may hack just for the thrill of playing god which may need a lot of money to fix back the sites. These situations may happen again for a few unlucky ones, but we have to look at this from a positive side, although we should not encourage these behaviours from people, LulzSec provided a gateway for the outcasts of society to use their proficiency in hacking to give them something to work on as their hobby. What if we utilise this skill for the betterment of society?

Hackers can be used to find missing people or to expose misdeeds in society. Even if this could be risky, their minds can be tested in a more positive way rather than to cause chaos. We should look at this from a positive light, because of hackers like LulzSec, we now have tighter security in everything we do. We are more conscious about being hacked, and corporations such as banks with all of our credit card details are nigh-impenetrable.
